Winter Extremes, eh?
Winter doesn't mean you have to put
your bike, scuba gear or even your windsurfer away.
Not in Canada, anyway.
Snow and Ice Sailing
Believe
it or not, windsurfing is a lot easier on ice and snow than it is on
water - and faster,
too, as it's possible to reach speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
Because the surface is
flat and stable, it's easier to balance on ice or snow, and it takes
a
lot less strength to control the sail or haul it up when it falls. The
high speeds are due to the
fact that winds are harnessed more efficiently and there's less drag
from ice than water.
