For Sunday, January 14, 2007, Winter is back.

Finally the cold temperature arrived. The Cook's Bay was frozen and in some areas
the ice was still very thin. Three of us still manage to sail and enjoy the day. Looking
forward to a very good weekend for next week. Where expecting much thicker
ice due to overnight temperatures well below the freezing mark.

For Saturday, December 30, 2006, Wishing for Ice.

After two weeks of warm temperature, the ice is starting to reform again at
Walter's Drive, Lake Simcoe. On Friday, it was still open water at the same
location. This was the warmest December on record. It's still not safe to sail
but at least it gives us hope that the water temperature is at the freezing range again.
Happy New Year to all of you. Wishing you a freezing fun for 2007 with lots of snow and ice.

For Sunday, December 24, 2006, Wacky Weather.

Unfortunately the temperature did not cool down enough to refreeze the ice. Some
diehard sailors showed up and brave the cold water temperature to windsurf or kitesurf.

For Saturday, December 16, 2006, The ice has melted.

Unfortunately due to the unusual temperature the ice is gone. The forecast for the next
week looks promising and with some luck, we might have the ice form back again.

For Sunday, December 10, 2006, 2nd day of good sailing.

Morning started up with a very good hard ice and lots of wind. By the
afternoon, with the sun's heat getting warmer and the ice getting softer, we stop
sailing. We didn't want to push our luck when you're sailing on 3 inch of ice.
There calling for mild temperature in the next few days and we're hoping the ice
will stay. Remember always check the ice before you go on it.

2006/07 Icesailing Season Has Officially Started

Our first Snowfering day of the season. We have 3 inch of nice ice and about 15 people
showed up for icesailing and kiting. It was a wonderful day and we sailed right up until the
beautiful sunset. This is the south end of Lake Simcoe, at the end of Walter Drive. Click
below at Snowfer Sailing Hotspots to find the map on how to get there. We will go back on
Sunday again for another good day of sailing. The wind forecast looks promising.

Safety Precaution
Always check the ice condition before you start sailing. Drill holes in the area where you are going to sail in to test ice thickness. Especially important in the beginning of the season. Make sure the ice thickness is not less than 4 inch and hard (known as black ice). Never go on the ice alone. Wear a life jacket, helmet and have an ice pick with you at all times. Ice/snow sailing & kitesurfing are a wonderful winter sport. Play it safe at all times.
